Six of One, Half Dozen of The Other
Battlestar Galactica has always been about the questionable choices people make in terrible circumstances, but last night’s episode “Six of One” seemed to take that to a new extreme. If you have not watched it yet, the entire episode is embedded above … if you have watched it, feel free to add your thoughts to my first impressions below.
For once, Adama is the (kinda mean) drunk and Tigh seems to be a (kinda) sober voice of reason.
Brother Cavil’s line “They are tools, not pets” and the debate about “lobotomizing” the raiders made me think of this post.
I was also interested in Cavil’s comments about how “millions of others” have their body parts … did we know there were millions of each Cylon copy? Dozens, yes, hundreds, maybe, but millions? That seems like a lot.
More conversations about the intent of the original programmers, which is nicely setting the stage for Caprica.
We finally see Kara on the ground screaming “We’re going the wrong way!” she was not shot as I had feared, but simply wallowing in the pain of feeling betrayed by Adama. I am not sure I like this new, weepy Starbuck … nor am I sure that Roslin was right when she said “They made you perfect, didn’t they?”
This was a tense episode, but not because of any outside threat. The threats were all internal, factions fighting against one another and the constant threat that formerly trusted allies would become violent with one another.
The scene with Roslin and Adama in their quarters, the way they talked to one another, saying harsh things that are sometimes best left unsaid … it reminded me a bit of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf, with Adama playing the Elizabeth Taylor part. Anyone who has said “Honesty is the best policy” has not been married, or married for very long.
Baltar’s newest head visitor? We could talk about this all day, but on the viewer side I am glad they are letting Baltar be creepy/funny again.
The drunken scene with the pilots was nice, but also jarring in that there are fewer and fewer familiar faces in that room. Racetrack defiantly unzipping her jacket was nice too, although I felt bad for her in the later scene on the deck when Lee seemed to shake hands with everyone but her. Perhaps it is too painful for him, in that she makes him think of Starbuck? Lee and Roslin did not make contact either, presumably because the wounds of Baltar’s trial are too fresh.
Six and the Centurians … she has been right about so many things, but that seems like a bad decision. Although if Leoban signed off on it, maybe not? We shall see.
