“She Wants to Nurture the Man:” Kandyse McClure on Dee’s Love for Lee Adama

The painful and pragmatic relationship between Anastasia “Dee” Dualla and Lee “Apollo” Adama is discussed in depth in a new interview with Dee’s real life counterpart, Kandyse McClure. In the interview, posted over at SliceofSciFi.com, Kandyse describes Lee’s conflict between Dee & Starbuck as the difference between “night and day” and implies that the woman Lee chooses will determine the man Lee becomes. She also offers her thoughts on the difficulties of of love in a low-population society, and marrying the son of the man you view as a father figure and having your husband turn out to be an adulterer who orders your wife to risk your own life to save his lover.

Fans have often speculated about what led writers to focus on Lee & Dee as a potential pairing, and Kandyse thinks it came from a moment where she ogled Jamie Bamber’s famous butt. There are other interesting anecdotes in the article but no real spoilers … although based on Kandyse’s comments we should not expect to see too much of Dee in early Season Four.
