Ron Moore Talks About “Caprica”
I dug up this old (October 2) interview with Ron Moore where he mentions the “Caprica” prequel series. As of that time, it sounded like they were still waiting for confirmation on the show, but the IMDB entry makes it sound like it’s definitely a go.
Moore describes the format of the show a little differently than I’d expected: “…it’s a very different format than Galactica. It’s not a war show; it’s not even a space show or an action-adventure show. It’s a family drama and a political drama about corporations and politics. It’s almost [more] like a sci-fi soap than it is an action-adventure series.”
The “epic tale of two great families” angle does make it sound a bit soapy. More interesting to me is that it will feature Adama’s father, who we know was a civil liberties lawyer.
According to an interview on TrekWeb, it’ll have Star Wars Prequel Syndrome, where the past is more advanced than the present: “…the interesting thing is that in this stage in Caprican history, they’re more advanced than the people we see on Galactica, because part of the mythos of the show is that it was a result of the Cylon War that made the [citizens of the Colonies] take a large step back from the technology they had developed. So [despite the fact that the show takes place 50 years before Battlestar Galactica], the society in Caprica will look more modern that Galactica’s.”
Remi Aubuchon, formerly co-executive producer and writer on “24,” will be developing “Caprica” with Ron Moore and David Eick. Remi will also be the show runner.

This will be pretty awesome. I’d love to see the build up to the Cyclon exodus and war. The plus side is that there is not alot of existing material on the subject which leaves it pretty open for the writers.
