Lt. Gaeta. What the hell was he thinking?

Well, Lt. Gaeta had himself quite an episode last week, didn’t he? A seeming routine interview with Giaus Baltar, that almost turned into a hostage situation, in which he comes close to committing murder.
Well, let’s be real here. Would anyone really consider it murder? Most of the crew would probably give Lt.Gaeta a hero’s parade down Main Street, a medal, “Key to the Universe”, and “life long” freebies. On the other hand, had he actually sliced Baltar’s throat, he could have gotten “life.” in a totally different environment.
Roslin, or Adama could likely put their feet up his arse. He took something, a situation he was supposedly was “trained” for, and totally “fracked’ it up. Now Baltar will more suspicious to anyone even looking at him.
Let’s imagine, that deep in that mentally wrecked mind of his, that in between his mentally deranged sexually charged obsessive sessions with Caprioca Six, Baltar really does have vital information, that Roslin and Adama can use, for the survival of the Colonies. This knowledge might have been driven so low. it’s become even more difficult to bring out.
Now I understand he took some big losses from the Cylons. I can understand his personal hatred and pain. However he needed to put all that in his emotional “back pockets” for later. He’s not the only person, who suffered losses at the hands of the Cylons. He need to focus on the bigger picture, not just petty revenge.
Sorry, no sympathy for this dude! He gets whatever he deserves from Adama, although if it were up to me, he’d be in holiday in a psych ward.
What do you think?

This was the best part of the episode. What does Baltar have on the guy to make him snap like that? Although, I could hardly call Gaeta a traitor, considering he acted more like an inner circle spy or one of those cops that pretends to be in the mob so he can get information.

Hey don’t get me wrong here. Gaeta is certainly no taritor. But he blew his job, nonethe less. He was supposed to get into from Baltar, right? At least that’s what Adama and Roslin wanted> I’m kinda looking from both worlds here. A lot of people would have considered him a hero if he had killed Baltar. But If I’m the military leadership, and Baltar has knowledge which helps me save humanity, and this dude kills him, I’m screwed. Kinda a double edge sword here.

Oh I know, but I meant when Balter was saying that Gaeta was a traitor for working both sides of the fence. I was like… what? He did what he could in that position to get the inside information.
As far as your theory of him being a hero if he did kill Baltar, you’re most likely right. Look what happened to what’s her name after she killed the first Sharon. She got a slap on the wrist so the same thing would prolly happen with Gaeta.
