Hope of Earth

by

Among the Big Questions about Season Four is whether the characters’ will make it to Earth. There are no guarantees the planet will be beautiful and hospitable when they arrive, however, as the Earth is a delicate place.

This morning they were talking about World Environment Day
on the news, and my thoughts drifted towards BSG. After everything the characters have been through, I hope they find Earth … and I hope that when they do, it is lovely.

The temptation to make Earth a place that has suffered will certainly be there, especially since scifi writers love to play with fictional depictions of the planet. After all of the talk of nuclear weapons on the show, it would be an easy out for the producers to allow them to find Earth but make the planet uninhabitable due to its nuclear annihilation. But if Season Four is truly “Act Three” of the story, then conclusions will come and not all of those conclusions should be dark ones.

Hope has been a running theme of the show, through the darkest times hope has been a driving motivator for so many characters. Thinking about the integrity of the story, it makes sense that Earth should be lovely because that hope should be honored rather than squandered.

Yes, I would like to see Earth like some version of the Garden of Eden, beautiful and untouched from technology. Make them have to literally start over. I do not want them to be travelling to Earth modern day, with either Dylan blaring on the radio.
