Welcome to the BSG Blog
Welcome to Watching Battlestar Galactica!
It’s the best political show on TV, it has some of the best actors around, and despite the grim tone of the third season (if you can say that of a show that began with nuclear apocalypse), Battlestar Galactica is the best it’s ever been. In this space, I’ll be recapping episodes and sharing BSG-related news as well as my own speculation and commentary.
Preparing for this blog, I found myself thinking back over the third season thus far. It’s been quite a ride: the survivors lost New Caprica; Baltar is in the clutches of the Cylons; Col. Tigh lost an eye and a wife; we got to see the inside of a Cylon ship; everyone got married. As abrupt as the “ONE YEAR LATER” flash-forward was last season, it’s been really gratifying that this season they’ve spent a lot of time on war wounds: the physical and mental fallout from the occupation of New Caprica. The whole New Caprica storyline was over pretty quickly: last March, I would have told you I expected them to milk it for most of the third season.
Thoughts on the direction of the show for the rest of the season? Thrilled to see Kat snuff it? Speak your mind in the comments section.

It was an excellent season. I think they realized that for it to continue to resonate with BSG fans they needed to get the drama back up in space. I liked the diversion to New Caprica, because it shook up loyalties and gave new depth to some of the more secondary characters. Kat annoyed the Frak out of me, so here biting it wasn’t too much of a bummer for me.
I’m just curious how Apollo likes going from Commander to Major again..

Yeah, Kat annoyed the frak out of me, too. Her most specific character trait seemed to be that she was Starbuck’s rival and that she used to be addicted to stims. Not a good enough reason to keep her around, in my opinion.
One of my favorite things about the New Caprica interlude was Jammer. It almost seems like they spent all that time developing his character in the webisodes just so they could flush him out of an airlock later. But that was a good thing - he had an interesting character arc, as a generally good guy who found himself on the wrong side.

Yeah. The New Caprica stuff definitely filled out some of the secondary characters, like Anders. They’ve also hit some current event hot ttopics with the suicide bombings and all. trying to challenge modern day morality. It’s a great thought provoking show. That and Colonial Vipers are cool.
