The Classic BSG Lunch Box

Battlestar Galactica Lunchbox Gift for Father's Day

Looking for the perfect Father’s Day gift for your favorite BSG fan?  Check out this mint-condition Battlestar Galactica lunch box, which comes with the thermos and depicts the classic Cylons going to war on the lid.

The set is available from a company in Great Britain that sells childhood collectibles, and the current price is approximately $154.47 USD (not including shipping).  If that is a bit out of your budget, then they also sell the thermos separately for approximately $40.00 USD.

And if that is still too pricey, you can always check out some of the tees that have been featured as the BSG T-Shirt of the WeekPaul at ToyBender has several interesting posts on BSG toys as well, on the off chance that your recipient would prefer something he can hold instead of something he can wear.

BSG T-Shirt of the Week: WTF?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

What the Frak Battlestar Galactica Tee from Think Geek This may not be the most original tee bearing a frak-reference, but the description on the Think Geek web site makes it worth checking out:

“Meetings. They happen no matter what you do. Even in the future, they haven’t managed to find a cure for the common meeting.

Take Battlestar Galactica, for instance. Adama meets with the Cylons on Galactica. The resistance has meetings to review escape plans. The Quorum of Twelve holds meetings to decide upon new laws for the colonies. Meetings, meetings, meetings.

And they’re still unbearably long. And you’re sitting there, quietly, in the back thinking to yourself, ‘What did I do to deserve this?’ [chug coffee, time passes] ‘Any idiot knows that plan will never work.’ [doodle on notepad, time passes] ‘What the frak is that guy thinking?’

Wear this shirt and proudly ask “WTF?” without actually asking it. It’s perfect because nobody takes it personally if you’re wearing a Battlestar Galactica shirt to the meeting. But *you* know why you’re wearing it. And that’s all that matters.”

OMG Pwnies Tee from Think Geek for Watching BSG post

While the meetings I go to usually frown on tee shirts, I giggle at the idea of wearing the tee underneath my suit to one meeting in particular.  If you want to join me, Think Geek sells these babies for $16.99 to $18.99 depending on size, with a bit more added for shipping.

The link to this shirt was sent to me by the same friend who hearts this Think Geek girl gamer tee, which has the bonus of a retro-80s toy reference.  If you need a Mother’s Day gift for a woman who has traded in her girlhood collection of My Little Ponies for an obsession with MMO or console dominance, then this shirt is for you.

BSG T-Shirt of the Week: Roslin 08

Battlestar Galactica T-shirt Roslin 08

If you were not charmed by the Adama ‘08 tees, perhaps this one is more to your liking.  Hijinks Ensure is selling a Roslin ‘08 tee that has a design as bold and uncompromising as Laura Roslin is this season.

The tees are $20s for men and $21 for ladies (smells like discrimination to me), with four dollars in shipping and handling charges for folks in United States or Canada.  International Roslin fans can still order the shirts, but their shipping is four dollars more.  For more information, please click here.

BSG T-Shirt of the Week: Baltar is My Homeboy

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

BSG TShirt of the Week Baltar Is My HomeboyIt’s been a few months since we have celebrated a BSG T-Shirt of the Week, but this fabulous piece of fabric definitely deserves the title.

Recently purchased by ProgGrrl over at GalacticaSitRep, this t-shirt has it all … wit, style, and the perfect mixture of a Battlestar Galactica reference with another famous bit of pop culture.

Much like the Ronald D. Moore Is My Master Now tee, the Baltar Is My Homeboy tee requires a good memory to appreciate and has the potential to inspire heated debates.  That, combined with the strange looks it will inspire from the un-pop- culture-educated, makes it a true tee to treasure.

Perhaps a Baltar tee inspired by the Buddy Jesus statute in Dogma is on the horizon?  Kevin Smith fans can only dare to dream.

Speaking of GalacticaSitRep, a special congratulations to ProgGrrl and Logan for their 1,000th post.  Keep up the good work folks!

Leah Cairns Racetrack Battlestar Galactica

Calling all Racetrack fans!  The official Leah Cairns web site launched this week over at leahcairns.com, and features great photos like the one above as well as interviews, family photos, and upcoming convention appearances.

Obama is a Cylon?  Maybe, maybe not but Battlestar Galactica fans who are also political junkies will probably get a kick out of this photo of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s heads photoshopped on Apollo and Starbuck’s bodies.

Aaron Douglas Chief Tyrol Battlestar Galactica Doll GalacticaSitRep

GalacticaSitRep is running a contest to give away two of the Chief Tyrol dolls that were recently issued by Diamond Select Toys.  If you are a fan of the Chief, his alter ego Aaron Douglas, or just like cool toys be sure to check it out.

Speaking of Aaron, Battlestar Blog found this interesting clip of Aaron, Callum Keith Rennie, and Gerard Butler from 300 in the movie Shattered.

In other Battlestar Galactica toy news, apparently fans will have the option to buy a life sized Cylon sometime in the near future.  Perfect for that odd space in the corner where your interior decorator says you need "something tall."

If you like fan fiction, you should check out Admiral Adama’s live journal page which takes the concept to the next level.  This may be the wave of the future for dedicated fan writers, who are not satisfied with the idea of writing a story and want to explore a character even further over time.

Be sure to check out this nice note on Nicki Clyne’s blog, pondering how fans can provide positive connections in this mixed up crazy world.

Note from Margie: 451 Press is still having trouble with its comments, so please be aware that if you leave a comment it will likely be marked as spam.  If you would like to make sure your comment reaches the blog, please e-mail me through the Contact form or by contacting watchingbsg@gmail.com and I will be happy to post it for you.

Finally! A Release Date for Season 3 of BSG on DVD!

Monday, December 31st, 2007

BattlestarGalactica_S3.jpg

It’s a Happy New Year for Battlestar Galactica fans, as Universal finally announced a definite release date for the DVDs of Season Three earlier today. The third season of Battlestar Galactica will be out March 25, just in time to create extra publicity for Season Four which will begin airing in April.

It has been a long and winding road for the release date of these Season Three DVDs, which were originally going to be in November 2007. This would have been just in time to create extra publicity for Razor and the original air dates for Season Four, which were supposed to be in January 2008. Then the writer’s strike loomed, and the beginning of Season Four was pushed back to April 2008. The time line became more complicated, as rumors swirled about Universal’s idea to split the fourth and final season of the show into two halves, shelving the end of the series until 2009. Now it seems only half of Season Four was filmed before the strike, so we will have a Season Four and Season Five after all … assuming that the strike does not resolve itself soon, which does not seem likely. Leave it to BSG to create a release schedule that is almost as complicated as the show itself.

But back to the DVD set, which sounds pretty great. There will be twenty-five previously unaired minutes of “Unfinished Business” (also known as the boxing episode) which raises the enticing possibility of more flashbacks to the characters’ time on New Caprica and is potentially some ’shipper’s dream come true. That is in addition to deleted scenes, behind the scenes materials, and other goodies.

Special thanks to Loyal Reader Pam for the head’s up about the news.

How To Spot a Cylon Poster

How to Spot a Cylon

Be Aware. Be Vigilant. And report unusual behavior or persons immediately!  So warns this humorous poster that is being advertised for sale in the Razor DVD, along with a plethora of other new Battlestar Galactica merchandise.

Apparently the poster was developed by the same fellow who created the lovely travel posters for various planets that compile the universe explored in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity.  It is sells for $19.99 if you are interested in framing it for your wall in a reminder to always be diligent.

There are also several fleet propaganda posters, which are reminiscent of the famous propaganda posters issued by the United States during World War II.  If you have ever dreamt of an image that combines Rosie the Riveter style art with Cylon alarmist messages, then this product can be yours for only $29.99.

Other new products include personalized fleet dog tags, which will be the perfect accessory if you choose to go as a fleet member to next year’s Halloween party.

There is sure to be a lot of political crossfire in the coming year, so if you would like to shield yourself behind a leader who knows how to win in battle, be sure to check out these Adama ‘08 tees from Goodstorm.com.

Battlestar Galactica Pilot Gives Away Halo 3 Legendary Edition

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

leo.jpg

If you like Battlestar Galactica, and you lust after the Legendary Edition of Halo 3, then you won’t want to miss the opportunity to win the game from a Battlestar Galactica star.

Leo Li Chiang plays the tattooed pilot on Battlestar Galactica, and viewers often see him lurking sexily behind Starbuck and other pilots while they all drink, fight, laugh, and berate one another over their shortcomings. Click the link to learn what Leo wants you to do to win the game … or you can wait and see if I win, because if that happens I will give it away as a prize here at watchingbsg.com.

Leo’s personal blog often talks about gaming and occasionally contains tidbits about the set of BSG. Earlier this year Leo blogged that Battlestar Galactica would have five seasons, prompting speculation that the series may continue after season four after all.

BSG T-Shirt of the Week: Ron D. Moore is My Master Now

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Ron_Moore_Shirt.jpg

It’s been a while since we have done a BSG T-Shirt of the Week, so I thought I would relaunch the feature with the shirt that gave me the idea in the first place. Because what is more geeky then a shirt, based on a shirt, based on a internet comic strip, based on a line from Star Wars?

This shirt is available at CafePress.com and is a reference to the “Joss Whedon is My Master Now” tees that were sold by PvPOnline.com a couple years ago.

The t-shirt was based on a PvP online comic strip published on May 10, 2005, right before Revenge of the Sith came out in theaters. Click here to see the strip. The strip became an instant classic, just like most of the things Joss Whedon has put on TV. Listen, I like Ron Moore and I like BSG, but Ron Moore is no Joss Whedon.

Help BSG Stars Support Breast Cancer Research

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

nickiclynewithbear.jpg

Battlestar Galactica stars Nicki Clyne, who plays Cally Tyrol, and Mark Sheppard, who played Baltar’s eclectic attorney Romo Lampkin, have autographed Avon Breast Cancer Awareness teddy bears which are currently up for auction on E-bay. Any bids you place on these collectible bears will help support breast cancer research and the “Save the Boobs!” campaign.

The bear sale is coordinated by Lisa Spodak of LisaWalks.com, who has over fifty autographed items up for auction on Ebay right now. When I checked this morning the bear signed by Joe Flanigan from Stargate: Atlantis was (by far) the most popular, inspiring over thirty bids and going for more than $200.

jamescalliswithbear.jpg

The bear from T.R. Knight, who plays George on Grey’s Anatomy, was in second place in terms of asking price, followed closely by bears signed by Oliver Phelps, who plays one of the Weasley Twins in the Harry Potter movies, knighted actor Sir Ian McKellen, Heroes‘ hottie cheerleader Hayden Panttierre, and Anthony Stewart Head who played Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Other items for sale are autographed by Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk from Firefly and Serenity, Michael C. Hall from Dexter and Six Feet Under, and Sean Astin from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

graceparkwithbear.jpg

Previous bear auctions by Lisa have included items autographed by Battlestar Galactica stars Nicki Clyne (Cally Tyrol), James Callis (Dr. Giaus Baltar), Jamie Bamber (Lee “Apollo” Adama), Mary McDonnell (President Laura Roslin), Grace Park (Boomer/Sharon/Athena), Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama), Tricia Helfer (Number Six/Gina), Michael Hogan (Col. Tigh), Kandyse McClure (Anastasia “Dee” Dualla), Aaron Douglas (Chief Tyrol), and Tahmoh Penikett (Karl “Helo” Agathon).

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so for more information about efforts to help combat breast cancer check out DiscussingBreastCancer.com or there will be plenty of posts about pink-themed products all month at LimitedEditionFoods.com.

Battlestar Galactica Quicklinks for Sept. 25, 2007

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

Viper_Statue.jpg

Love the classic Battlestar Galactica vipers? This new limited edition statue can be yours.

Good news for Helo fans: a new forum has been created that is dedicated to Tahmoh Penikett. In other Tahmoh news, he will be appearing in Sacramento at the end of the month as he has graciously agreed to take Jamie Bamber’s place at Sacramento Con.

Very intriguing speculations about Season Four on Boobtube, if you are not spoiler phobic be sure to check out the post entitled “Starbuck is Not a Cylon, She is Jesus.”

The folks over at Libertas are not big fans of BSG’s Season Three ender, particularly the speech Jamie Bamber gave in defense of Baltar.

How to Make a Cylon Jack-o-lantern

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Cylon_Jackolantern.jpg

Halloween is on the horizon, and why not have the coolest jack-o-lantern on the block? A Cylon jack-o-lantern is sure to impress, and the Evil Mad Scientist Laboratory has detailed instructions on how to make the cool one above. To see it in action, check out the YouTube clip below. If that one seems too complicated, a more traditional Cylon jack-o-lantern is an option as well.

Battlestar Galactica Fleet Halloween Costume

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Battlestar_Galactica_Halloween_Costume.jpg

Want to channel the fiery defiance of Starbuck this Halloween?

Put on some leather pants and a double tank top, sleek back your hair and put on a six sided fleet dog tag and strut your stuff.

If you are male, or simply have a body more like Aaron Douglas than Grace Park, then there is also a male version with pants that are a little roomier.
