Battlestar Galactica

To celebrate being the new blogger at watchingbsg.com I went back and watched the pilot last night. Everyone was asleep and a dark quiet house, a glass of red wine, and a few cylons seemed just the way to relax and end the week.

The first spoken words of the pilot are “Are you alive?” and “Prove it.” These two short sentences foreshadow many of the dynamics and plots of the series, as many of BSG’s struggles center around characters quests for proof of identity, proof of loyalty, proof of themselves.

Those two sentences also capture the challenge facing any blogger. Bloggers must prove themselves and face the challenge of making their site worthy of visiting on a regular basis. Is your blog “alive,” is it adding something worth reading to the endless flow of information that saturates our culture and our minds every day? Can you “prove it,” can you make your site a place folks check on and enjoy? This is especially daunting over here at watchingbsg.com, as the show will not be back on the air for six months. But the world of BSG is a rich one, and hopefully I can write some things that prove worthy of reading, thinking about, or commenting on.

“How much time does any of us have to live”? These are the words of President Laura Roslin, of the 13 Colonies. She made a good point, although the people playing the media folks, really act as if they don’t understand. Personally, I want Laura Roslin to see Earth.

It would be sad if she didn’t make it that long. The programme would be lost without her string character suits. And she’s the perfect foil to Adama and Tigh. They sort of keep check on each other. And, as I’ve said before, it would be hot to see a romantic relationship between those two! I think most fans would agree with me. Well, wouldn’t you?

The people need her inspiration and leadership. No-one else has proven capable and competent at the position. Certainly not Giaus Baltar. I hope she can get another injection of little Hera’s blood, so she can heal up. Now if she’d stop the damn smoking, that might help as well.

Let her continue on, I say. She’s too vital to let go of. She’s insightful and truly gifted. I for one would miss her greatly. Keep her on!

Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund

April 16, 2007, will be remembered as one of the darkest days in the history of the Virginia Tech community and the world beyond.

To remember and honor the victims of those tragic events, the university has established the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to aid in the healing process and generate financial support.

Anna D’Biers saw the vision. She saw who the “Five” were before she return to her ship. She tried to get the message out…………………but then. She was a cylon and Bro Clvi thought her a threat to their existence, and stopped her rebirth. I wonder if she’ll come back? Well, you know what? I hope she does.

Her vision was an integral part of the series. To ignore it would be casting aside a major part of the storyline. However, my hope is that if she returns, she gets revenge on the old Bro, and lieterally puts her foot in his behind, so to speak. I hope she’ll become Colonial driendly, and an ally as well.
No I’m not just saying this because she’s a beauty and I want her back, because of some fantasy thing. (although that doesn’t hurt does it? *lmao*)

I believe her vision along with Caprica Six, (another one whome i barely pay attention to.) and the others will unlock a major mystery in their search for Earth, and the destiny of the colonies, as well. Who knows? Perhaps even Tigh, Sam, Tyrol, and the Presidential Aide will all have something to do with this.

On all the blogs I’ve read and written on we’ve had many comparisons to the Adamas. However, I’d like to ask for a comparison of the Executive Officers, Colonels Ty and Tigh.

Terry Carter, the first Colonel Ty, ( and who formerly was an astronaut, from the NASA programme), in a list of both positive/negative qualities was.

Amicable
Serious
Spiritual, as Commander Adama, although a bit skeptical at times
Got on well with people
Decisive
Always willing to associate with other officers
Worrisome
Not close with the Colonial President/Council
Concerned with public image
High standards, but not a whip on the subject.

Colonel ty was easy to talk with. he had a type of “uncle figure” type of personality, which made others comfortable around him. He explained things in detail, his knowledge of technical jargon could rival Commander Scott from Star Trek. You could have a meal and friendly conversation with him. In fact, had he been a family man on this programme, he’d had regularly tucked his children in at bedtime. He was loyal to a fault and bailed out Adama, many times with “creative explanantions” to council members.

This man is the Colonial “Terminator.” He will do whateever it takes to win, even cheat without a thought. A fine military man, first rate executive. However, very bitter and ultra-violent. Killing his wife still weighs heavy on his conscience. I’d be afraid to make even a small mistake in front of him, because he might punch me out. I’m happy he has NO children on the programme, because they’d need to build a “juvenile hall” for them, if they follow his example. *lmao* He is however the leader you want in a tight spot.

There were people who were upset that the new Tigh was not cast by an American of African Descent. I reminded them that they cannot look at the cast that way. The colonists are not classified as we are here. They are Colonists of the 13 Worlds, so who cares, who plays what. Lorne Greene is not Hispanic, The original Starbuck was not a female, and neither was Boomer. Big deal. And Cylons were not sexy. Well, they are now, huh? *lmao*

Well, since Starbuck had dies and apparently came back in a “vision” to Lee Adama, will she be a mahjor key signal, as the path to discovering earth, for the Colonials? I believe she will be, although she will not make a physical revival. Some people have argued she’ll return in Cylon form, however there’s no indication of that until we see some more episodes. Personally, I think she’s dead in the physical realm, but very much alive in the spiritual.

Now the real question in my mind is whether Admiral Adama will believe it. Unlike his series predecessor( Lorne Greene aka; Commander Adama), he’s not a real believer in ethereal things. The tangibles are more important to him. If this were present life, Adama (Edward James Olmos) would be a practically functional agnostic, or skeptic.

The Admiral and Tigh are very much the “I’ll believe it when I see it” crowd. I will have to be convinced as well. Perhaps you already see it in the coming series.

Are you looking for some toy Galactica gifts and memorabilia? Dynamite Press will has some comics on the new series that are very exciting. One thing bthough. If you want the entire collection, be advised in each series the storyline is the same, but the covers are different. So if you buy all of #3’s, all the covers are the ONLY thing different. So, the enitire first of 5 is actually 15 comics. The next series is more than 10. But, you can give em away. Some series of covers is as good as another, right?

Well folks be patient. Hopefully we’ll be getting the new episodes soon enough. I’m chomping at the bit myself. Let’s hope they find earth in this last series.

I know we’ve all been starving to death waiting for the next season to start. I’m biting my nails every Sunday night, believe me. I’m also saddened by the fact, it will be the last season, as well. I’ve always been one for which this programme could last forever, and I’d be satisfied.
So, what direction are you hoping the programme takes seeing as it only has about 22 episodes to go, as I told? Will certain people die? Will Roslin survive her cancer? Will we see the vacationing Mr. Zarek? My biggest thing is hoping that Lucy Lawless returns, and gets revenge on the other Cylons. Then again I’m fantasising, right? *lol*

If you were to make a comparison between Lee Adama and the original Apollo, whom would be the better man in your opinion? Well let’s see.

Apollo was;
Very intelligent
Quick thinker
Always looking for the positive
Investigative
Always willing to take advice
Good father to his son Boxey.
Always willing to defend the fleet

Lee Adama is
Very intelligent
Critical thinker
Hard, sharp leadership qualities
Not a fatherly figure
Goes against the grain.
Brash and much bravado.

These are just short examples of their character. I’m sure you’re able to come up with more. If you were in the fleet, who’d be your captain? What qualities of either suit you the best?

Now that Dr. Giaus Baltar is out, there are some questions one might consider.

First, will he attempt to have his previous book reprinted? Well it seems in a previous episode, Baltar seemed to get some followers from it, creating a general strike, from which Chief Tyrol almost lost his beloved Cally. Has he struck a never with disgruntled Colonials still? Is there a chance even in the remotest point he gained some followers? Is there underlying unrest among the populace?

Will he ever be allowed to see Caprica Six again? Will she ever get a hearing? Is she entitled to one? Do you see Lampkin getting mixed up in that one? And on what charges? I don’t really see the military desiring to see them both running away somewhere, anytime soon.

Does he dare show his face in public in the first place? There are folks who might have a hero complex about killing him. They might receive all kinds of secret goodies, even if locked away for life in doing so. Does he really have anywhere to hide? I doubt he’ll stay away. there’s just something in his lunatic mind that craves attention, even if negative attention arises.He has a persecution complex, where the more opposition, the more he craves the spotlight.

Personally, I’d kill him, and go to prison for it, proudly
