Personal Update, Part II

Robot_Thank_You_Card_from_Dolce_Mia.jpg

Many thanks to everyone for bearing with me while my father was so sick.  He is not out of the woods yet, but he is doing much better - home from the hospital after almost two weeks, and doing his best to get even better as quickly as possible.  I have a LOT to catch up on in life and on the blog, but hopefully everything will be back to “normal” soon!

I will be posting more in the next few days, and I will be back on the ShaunOMac show on Monday after three weeks off!  I have missed those guys, missed all of you, and definitely missed the BSG analysis.

Once again, many thanks to everyone for your patience and good wishes … I hope you will extend me a bit more as I try to catch up! Battlestar Galactica news moves at the speed of a jump, and I am feeling very behind!

Personal Update

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Thanks to everyone who has written to check on my father, who is still in the hospital. We are really hoping Dad gets to come home soon.

Until then, I appreciate everyone’s patience with me! Either way, I will try to get some more BSG news up on the blog over the weekend.

Thank You,
Margie

Sick Bloggers With Tech Problems

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

There is a ton of great BSG news out there, and I am behind! I have been under the weather, and that combined with some serious tech issues has dragged down my BSG reporting the past two weeks. Hopefully body and blog will be back up and running soon, but until then I appreciate your patience.

Many Thanks,
Margie

Limited Edition Spam Rugby Tin

It seems there is a problem with the spam filter on the network, and as a result ALL of the comments on this blog for the past few weeks were labeled as spam … even my comments.

Please know that comments were not intentionally blocked, this was just a programming error and I am assured that it will hopefully be fixed in the next few weeks.  As frustrating as it is, I was vaguely relieved to discover this was why I was not getting any comments … I was starting to worry I run you all off!

So my sincere apologies to everyone who took the time to leave a comment on this blog, especially since I missed some good ones.  I went back and tried to manually find and approve them all, but if I missed yours please do not hesitate to let me know.

Until this problem is fixed I will be trying to find the real comments that are hidden amongst the hundreds of spam comments this blog gets every day.  Things can get lost in the shuffle, however, so I want to give you that warning, and also issue an invitation … if you are not hawking porn, or predatory loans, or pain killers, or any of the bizarre products people try to sell through this blog then feel free to send me an e-mail and I will post your non-spam comment for you.  It’s the least I can do for those of you who leave comments until this problem is fixed.

$300 for your thoughts …

… is definitely better than a penny. 451 Press is running a comment contest in August, and anytime you comment here on watchingbsg.com you get entered into a drawing for cash.

Entries also happen anytime you comment on, say, posts about ways to wire your home theater or what celebrities are clubbing South Beach.

Here’s the official blurb from the blog network:

Comment on any 451 Press site during the month of August and you could win! Three comments will be chosen at random to win a cash prize of $300, $200 or $100. The more you comment the more chances you have to win. So start reading and let those fingers fly.

So if you are the type who reads but does not comment, now is the time to change your lurking ways.

Good luck, because winning would certainly give you something to smile about!

Frakkin’ Technical Difficulties

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Have the Cylons sent a virus into my blog? It’s been a tough week for watchingbsg.com, but I am working on getting everything back on track. 451Press tells us that my favorite feature has been fixed, and I am working on recreating the posts that were somehow “eaten” by the Tech Monster between yesterday and today. If all goes week we should be back to serving up info, Starbuck Shot Style, by Wednesday. Thanks for your patience, folks!

Blogging Loose Ends: Unanswered Questions on WatchingBSG.com

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Wrapping up a couple Battlestar Galactica loose ends today, as we look back at posts from the past couple weeks that contained questions that now have answers:

Battlestar Galactica was nominated for a few Spacey Awards
, but was completely shut out of the winner’s circle.

And here is the answer to the reader-submitted “research riddle” from last week:

Gino’s Riddle

A goddess, a bomb, who?
One new, now plays two.
Of the originals, what now do they do?

Gino = Galactica In Name Only, the disparaging name that fans of the old BSG series gave to the “reimagined” version currently on the scifi channel.

A goddess, a bomb, who? = Grace Park who plays both Athena (the warrior goddess of wisdom) and Boomer (loose slang for a bomb).

One new, now plays two = Grace Park again referring to her “new version” of the character on the current BSG show. But in the original Battlestar Galactica, Athena and Boomer were two different characters, played by two different people; back then, Athena was Apollo’s sister and played by Maren Jensen while Boomer was the third of the pilot triumvirate, best friend of both Apollo and Starbuck, and played by Herb Jefferson Jr.

Of the originals, what now do they do? = a “where are they now” portion of the puzzle. Maren Jensen became one of the first people in Hollywood to suffer the debilitating effects of Epstein-Barr syndrome (in the 1980s). She has since recovered, but has left show business behind her. Herb Jefferson Jr. is involved in community and charity activities including the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Program, USO, California Paralyzed Veterans Association and California Special Olympics.

GINO’s Riddle

Gino’s Riddle

A goddess, a bomb, who?
One new, now plays two.
Of the originals, what now do they do?

A friend of mine sent me this question, which apparently was up for more than a week on their World of Warcraft guild’s website and no one ever got it right. The correct answer requires four answers and some internet research. Any guesses?

Another Day, Another Blogger: The Plan

Monday, May 21st, 2007

We have a long wait for the next season of BSG, but that does not mean we don’t have a lot to talk about. Time between seasons is a great time for us to think about everything that has happened on the show and to speculate about what is to come. Over the summer I will be recapping the shows from the first season, and offering suggestions for ways to spend your time if you are in serious BSG withdrawal. We are going to have analysis of various story arcs, characters, moments, time lines, and hopefully some great conversations with blog visitors along the way. There will also be news about the BSG cast, developments from the SciFi folks, media coverage, spoilers when we can find them, the special DVD release, and much more. So be sure to come back and visit because it is a a brand new day here at watchingbsg.com!

Another Day, Another Blogger

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Monday is a big day here at watchingbsg.com, because after a few weeks of “pause” the blog will officially be back on “play” with new posts and new information about all things Battlestar Galactica. To tide you over until then, you may want to spend some time today checking out the third and final day of the SciFi network’s BSG Marathon. Or you can join me at the Bart Simpson Chalkboard (TM) where we I shall be writing the name of the show 1,000 times in an attempt to purge my brain of the misconception that Galactica has two “l”s. Whatever you choose to do over the next few days make sure you have fun, stay safe, and check back here on Monday morning. See you then!
