Caprica to Start Shooting in Two Weeks?
Earlier tonight I was lucky enough to be a guest on the ShaunOMac radio show, and his loyal listener Rammy called in to say that there were new and credible rumors that Caprica will begin filming in March.
The source of the rumor is The Doctor and Mrs. Who radio show, another Blog Talk Radio production, and one that claims to have a credible inside connection to the Caprica camp. The Doctor claims that Caprica has been greenlit as a series by the SciFi Channel, and will begin filming in two weeks in Canada (I am assuming they mean in Vancouver, which is also the home of Battlestar Galactica and several other scifi series).
If you would like to hear the announcement for yourself click here, it comes fairly early in the broadcast at about the three to four minute mark. My gut instinct is that at least part of the rumor may be true simply because of the source: The Doctor and Mrs. Who radio show is connected with The Two Doctors radio show, which has had some amazing Battlestar Galactica scoops in the past. If the Doctor says it is going to happen, then there is a better than average chance the it is going to happen.
For readers who are wondering what the fuss is about, Caprica is the long-rumored Battlestar Galactica prequel show that the SciFi Channel first considered over two years ago. The idea is essentially a series that would take place during the time when the Cylons were first created and center around a whole new set of characters (including the Adamas of old, who were legal scholars rather than soldiers, and members of a frenemy family called the Graystones). The concept has new interest for Battlestar Galactica fans after the fervent interest in the original five Cylons, a group whose mythology only deepened during the recent Razor telemovie. A well-done series that included the genesis of these original entities would definitely be one to watch.
