Battlestar Wishes & Caprica Dreams
Loyal reader Pam has been e-mailing me about her hopes and dreams for future Battlestar Galactica projects. Like many fans, she wishes for a fifth Battlestar Galactica season although that may be dreaming the impossible dream.
Some of her dreams, though, are much more attainable … like hoping that someone does a novelization of Razor or a future miniseries set in the Battlestar Galactica universe. Given the cheap production cost of a novel that seems highly probable, and given the popularity of BSG it seems that a miniseries at some point is doable.
Pam also dreams of Caprica, the long discussed Battlestar Galactica spin off series that has been discussed for a number of years but never confirmed. The SciFi Channel recently confirmed that Caprica is still a possibility, and its potential is dependent on the success of Razor’s DVD sales effort.
The original Caprica concept focused on the Adama clan, particularly the successful trial lawyer that fathered Admiral Adama. Many references to Adama’s father have been made throughout the new Battlestar Galactica series, and his ghost cast a heavy shadow over Baltar’s trial at the end of season three. Pam’s vision would fast-forward the time line a few years and focus on the rebuilding years after the first Cylon war, presumably with the elder Adama still playing a major role.

Pam’s been writing to Bonnie Hammer, the president of the SciFi Network, about her ideas and would like to encourage folks to join her in her quest. She asked me to publish her letter to Ms. Hammer, which is below, and the addresses for various contacts which are below as well.

Dear Ms. Hammer,
I will not lie in saying that I am very sad that the last season of the Battlestar Galactica TV series is the fourth. I do hope that by some miracle that a fifth and final season will be allowed, provided that the TV ratings will be much better. On the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Razor movie, I am excited about seeing it! Could you please have a novelization of the TV movie script be made available as a book purchase as well?
However, I would love to see the beginning of the first Cylon war be made into a direct to DVD four hour or six hour miniseries! I really want to see the why and how the first Cylon war got started!!! If this BSG: Razor movie does pretty well in DVD sales and hopefully does well in the ratings, when it airs on TV, I am hoping against hope that the Sci Fi Channel would consider setting aside a reasonable amount of money to produce another Battlestar Galactica direct to DVD product as a four hour or six hour miniseries focusing on the first Cylon war. For me personally, I would definitely prefer to see a six hour miniseries, just to allow more time to develop the story further and to flesh out the characters a little better. Could you please pass my suggestion on to the people in charge? Also, I know that the special effects are very expensive, but if the first Cylon war miniseries is to be produced as another direct to DVD miniseries, could you please, please have TWO GOOD, LONG SPACE BATTLE scenes?!!! Pretty please!!! LOL! Also, if this TV miniseries based on the first Cylon comes to be produced, could you please have a novelization of the TV script be made available as a book purchase? For example, you did this with the 2003 TV miniseries and had a novelization of the script available as a book purchase.
As for the Caprica TV series, provided it gets produced and aired on the Sci Fi Channel, I want to see a completely different storyline all together. If the first Cylon war miniseries does not get produced, I really want to see the Caprica TV series focus on the why and how the first Cylon war got started, showing the effects of the first Cylon war on the 12 colonies, etc. This is my honest opinion, I really do not care to see the Caprica storyline set 50 years in the past of when the Cylons were first created, etc!!! Thank you for your time in reading my letter.
Sincerely,
Pam

Great headline.
I actually would not want a 5th season, as the show will have run its course.
I am convinced only sitcoms can/should remain around longer than 4 seasons.
I love Lost but it should have ended last season.
